Get to Know Ms. Cupples
I'm so excited to be the librarian at Morton Elementary School. This is my third year to be Morton's librarian and I predict many exciting things taking place in the library this year. Prior to becoming a Mustang I taught 1st and 4th grade in the Duncanville district. I have found a home here at Morton where I'm surrounded by some of the very best teachers I've ever had he pleasure to work with and the most supportive administration staff around. I can go on and on about the staff here at Morton and I can't wait to support them in their classrooms, but my passion is touching the lives of my students in profound and enriching ways.
Each student is an individual person with their own likes, dislikes, interests, and things that spark that magic that is unique to them. I pride myself in developing personal relationships with students and getting to know what it is that makes them tick. As a teacher, I use that information to help students become active learners in the classroom. As a librarian, I look forward to using student relationships to trigger that love for reading and the understanding that different types of media can either provide them vital information or take them to new and different worlds.
As a parent of two children, my daughter will be 15 and my son will be 12 this year, I know what it's like to view the school environment through the eyes of a concerned parent. A school campus can be intimidating! I'm happy to say that I'm here to help reduce your anxiety and bridge the gap some parents feel they may have in supporting their child's academic needs. The Morton library is much more than just a resource for students and teachers - it can be a useful resource to parents as they become an active member in their child's education.
Whether you are a student, a teacher, a staff member, or a parent please feel free to contact me at anytime at [email protected].
I look forward to seeing you in the Morton library this year!!

Library Time
- Classes will visit the library every other week as designated.
- Students may visit the library with the permission of their teacher during open check-out times. A schedule of open check-out times will be provided to the teachers and posted outside the library.
- Students may check out books on a weekly basis and maybe renewed for an additional week when needed.
- Students in grades 1-6 may check-out two books for the week.
- Students in grades K may check-out one book for the week.
- Books are due each week on the student's check-out day.
- No fines are assessed for late books; however it is extremely important that students be responsible for their books and mindful that someone else would like to check out the same book. Parents, please assist your child in getting books returned in a timely manner.
- Parents will be notified of any lost books and the cost for the book that is lost. (Students will bring home a notification from the library of lost materials.)
- Students will not be able to check out books until the student has paid for the lost book.
- If a book is found after it has been paid for then a refund will be issued to the parents up until the end of the school year. If a book is found after the end of the school year a refund will not be provided.
- Books are checked daily for damage as they are returned, and notes are made on the back end pages if minor damage is found.
- It is the student's responsibility to report any damages found at or shortly after the time of check out.
- If a book is returned with damage and there is no previous notation of the damage, the student will be held responsible for the damages.
- If a book is damaged, the library will notify the parent of the cost of the book, and the student will not be allowed to check out additional books until that book is paid for.
- All Morton rules apply within the library.
- My expectation is that all students will treat library materials with respect.
- The library is an area of exploration, but the noise level should never be louder than a level 2.
- Keep your library neat and clean. Pick up all centers, return all reading materials to their proper places, and push in any chairs you may have used.
- Be mindful of others and return books to the library before or on your check-out day.
